Tempeh Turkey

Firm, delicious and a great addition to a Sunday Roast: this dish is a winner. Please note: Tempeh is not an alternative. It is a naturally nutritious plant-based food that tastes delicious in its own right. Don't expect this to taste exactly like turkey, but you'll love it nonetheless.

ingredients

  • 2 x 200g Organic Tempeh, sliced
  • 6 tablespoons water
  • 3 tablespoons liquid smoke or soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons mustard
  • 3 sprigs finely chopped fresh rosemary
  • 3 sprigs finely chopped fresh thyme
  • 4 fresh finely chopped sage leaves
  • 5 minced garlic cloves
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil

instructions

  1. Add the water, liquid smoke, mustard, rosemary, thyme, sage leaves and garlic to a mixing bowl and whisk thoroughly until combined.
  2. Place the tempeh chunks into a roasting dish, before pouring the marinade on top of them.
  3. Place the tempeh in the fridge to marinade, preferably overnight but 2-3 hours is sufficient if necessary.
  4. Turn over the tempeh pieces at least a couple of times to ensure they soak up the marinade evenly.
  5. Remove the tempeh chunks from the marinade, generously brushing them with olive oil and place them in a new roasting dish.
  6. Roast the tempeh at 180-200°C (160-180°C fan) for 10 minutes on one side, then flip and roast for a further 10 minutes on the other side.
